Man’s silver necklace saves his life from bullet that would ‘have ended up’ in his neck

A man’s silver necklace became his saving grace following a shooting.

Police in Colorado were left stunned after discovering a victim’s life was saved by his “knock off” chain in a shooting last week.

In a statement shared to Facebook, the Commerce City Police Department described the story as “incredible”.

“We’d say he really dodged a bullet — but in reality, he LODGED a bullet,” officials began.

“This silver chain – approximately ten millimeters in width – is likely the only reason the victim of a shooting we responded to yesterday is still alive,” the statement continued, giving social media users a close-up of the piece of jewelry in question.

The silver chain, which still had traces of blood on it, shows the exact area the bullet hit.

“The .22 caliber bullet was fired during an argument and would have ended up in the victim’s neck had it not instead become lodged in the chain he was wearing,” a spokesperson for the Commerce City Police Department explained. “As a result, he suffered only a puncture wound.”

“The suspect was arrested at the scene and is facing attempted homicide charges,” they stated, before adding: “Side note– we don’t know what kind of metal this is, but it’s likely not pure silver. We looked it up… and silver is soft. So maybe think twice before you knock a knockoff.

“Just incredible.”

While this man found out the benefits of his chain, a teenager recently discovered that sometimes, cheap necklaces can also be dangerous.

Rayce Ogdahl, from Oklahoma, was left with second, third, and fourth-degree burns around his neck when he fell asleep with his necklace on.

The 16-year-old’s mom, Danielle Davis, detailed the ordeal, noting that her son woke up with deep marks and smelling of burning flesh.

The teen was treated at a burn unit and suffered some frightening injuries, which resulted in scarring around his neck.

Thankfully though, he’ll live to tell the tale.
