Girlfriend of surfer killed in Mexico shares his heartbreaking final voicemail message

A surfer left a heartwrenching final voicemail message to his girlfriend before he was killed in Mexico.

Australian brothers Jake Robinson, 30, Callum Robinson, 33, and their American friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, all traveled to Ensenada, Mexico for a fun getaway.

The group was last seen surfing and camping along the Mexican coast on April 27, as reported by PEOPLE.

According to the Associated Press, the brothers’ mother, Debra Robinson, revealed that her sons and their friend were reported missing after they failed to show up at the accommodations they had booked in Rosarito.

NBC San Diego reported that police officers searching for the men discovered three bodies at the bottom of a well 50 feet deep in Santo Tomas, Baja California, FBI San Diego. All three had suffered gunshot wounds.

Baja California’s chief state prosecutor María Elena Andrade Ramírez theorized in a press conference that the three surfers were possibly killed for their truck because the suspects wanted the tires, per AP.

Ramírez believes the suspects spotted the tents the men had set up and said: “When (the surfers) came up and caught them, surely, they resisted.”

She also added that they were most likely murdered when they fought off the robbers.

The victims’ relatives identified the bodies, which were found about four miles from where they were murdered. A fourth body was also found in the well.

Authorities have now arrested three people: Jesús Gerardo Garcia Cota, Ari Gisel García Cota, and Cristian Alejandro García following the deaths.

They were all allegedly found in possession of drugs, per News.com.au.

Robinson had flown to America two weeks earlier to visit his brother Callum, who was living in San Diego with his girlfriend Emily Horwath.

Horwath has paid tribute to her late partner with a saved Instagram highlight, featuring a saved voice message he left her.

In the heartbreaking message, Callum says: “Happy Tuesday, good morning! It’s 11.11 and I’m just thinking about you. Just wanted to drop you a quick message and say, hello baby, hope you’re having a phenomenal start to your day.”

“I’m sensing a big grin on your face for some reason today. I hope you’re full of positivity and smiles. Cheers baby, miss you,” he concluded.

Emily captioned the story: “Will be playing this on repeat,” and added: “That’s exactly who you were. Positivity and smiles.”

She also shared an earlier post, writing that her heart was “shattered into a million pieces. I don’t have the words right now,” alongside a broken heart emoji and a sweet snap of her and her boyfriend looking happy at a wedding.

A GoFundMe to support the Robinsons in the wake of the tragedy has raised $303,708 of the $350,000 target.

Another donations page was set up by Aubrey Byers on behalf of Jack’s girlfriend Natalie Weirtz, whom he was set to tie the knot with in August.

“We’ve created this GoFundMe page for two purposes: the first is to rally support for Natalie during this unimaginably difficult time and provide essentials such as housing, food, transportation, and more.

“The second is to honor Carter by raising money for scholarships and donations he felt passionate about. No donation is too small, and every contribution is deeply appreciated,” they added.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of all three victims.
