Child Star From Titanic Reveals How Much Money He’s Made Over The Past 25 Years

When you think of the leading stars from “Titanic,” it’s almost certain you’ll immediately think of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

But do you remember the young Irish boy? The one who plays a brief yet touching role as a third-class passenger on the doomed ship?

Now, over a quarter-century since the iconic movie’s release, the former child actor who portrayed that little boy has started sharing details.

He has opened up about the earnings he has accumulated from the film over the years.

Reece Thompson was just five years old when he appeared in the 1997 blockbuster.

It’s clear his character didn’t have a happy conclusion, as we see him at one point waiting with his mother and sister to board a lifeboat.

Tragically, the film later shows all three of them deceased in their cabin.

Certainly, you could argue that Thompson’s part wasn’t central to “Titanic’s” storyline, but it did shed light on the grim fate of many poorer passengers aboard the ship.

Reece admits he recalls little from his time on set, but he’s reminded annually of his role through a modest royalty check from the Oscar-winning film.

Over the years, Thompson has amassed over $30,000 from his appearance in Titanic.

He shared that his talent agent gave his mother two choices at the time:

He could star in a commercial for a gas station or take a minor role in ‘a major motion picture’.

Choosing the commercial would have been the safer bet.

However, Reece’s mother opted to have him audition for the role in “Titanic,” which has since become the third highest-grossing film ever.

Speaking to Business Insider in 2018, Reece reflected: “It turned out to be one of the highest-grossing films in history, so it’s pretty bizarre in retrospect.

“My mum was like: ‘Let’s just do it. It’ll be cool. Even if the movie sucks, we’ll see it.’

“Obviously, it ended up exploding, so that wasn’t a bad decision on her part, that’s for sure.”

The checks he receives each year are more substantial than you might expect for such a brief role.

“It’s weird because it’s not present in my mind anymore,” Reece commented.

“It’s not like, ‘Oh, when am I going to get a new Titanic check?’

“When it happens, it’s like, ‘Oh, cool, an extra $100.’

“There have been a couple of times where it’s been like: ‘Oh, wow, that’s a $250 check.’

“But hopefully, they keep playing it a lot because that means more money for me.”
