Cameron Diaz ‘doesn’t care’ about appearance after leaving Hollywood
|When Cameron Diaz bid farewell to Hollywood, she not only left the industry but also shed the societal expectations surrounding her appearance – as many women, especially those in the public eye, often experience.
In an interview on Michelle Visage’s Rule Breakers podcast on the BBC, the former actress revealed her current approach to beauty standards and skincare, saying she prefers a more carefree lifestyle.
Cameron expressed how leaving acting after marrying Benji Madden freed her from the confines of Hollywood allure.
The Charlie’s Angels star acknowledged that she had been a “victim of societal objectifications and exploitations” throughout her life, especially given that she has lived her life so publicly.
“I am absolutely a victim of all of the societal objectifications and exploitations that women are subjected to,” she shared, adding that she was able to recognize how she also played her own role in these standards.
At 51, Cameron explained that her beauty products are practically untouched on her shelves, gathering dust and expiring one by one – which only highlights how far she has departed from the rigorous beauty routines usually dictated by Hollywood.
“It’s hard not to. It’s hard not to look at yourself and judge yourself against other markers of beauty, and I think that that’s one of the biggest things. The last eight years, girl — I’m like wild. I’m like a wild animal. I’m a beast,” Cameron told Michelle, describing her current attitude towards beauty routines.
The mother-of-one has also taken a natural and laid-back approach to skincare, admitting that she doesn’t like to dwell on her appearance on a daily basis.
“I don’t care. Literally the last thing I think about on a daily basis, like maybe not at all during the day, is what I look like. No, no, I literally do nothing. I never wash my face,” she candidly shared with Michelle.
Occasionally, she reverts to old habits, applying different lotions and potions. Though, this doesn’t happen often, with The Holiday actress revealing it happens “twice a month if I’m lucky.” She then added: “I’ll be like, ‘Oh, I better put this on. One time works, right? Like, is that all I have to do?’ I’m just not in that place right now like where I put any energy.”
By choosing to get rid of the pressures of appearance, Cameron is able to channel her time and energy into more meaningful aspects of life, like raising her daughter, Raddix, who was born in January 2020.
