George Clooney calls on Joe Biden to step down: ‘We are not going to win with this president’

George Clooney has called on President Joe Biden to step down as leader of the Democratic party ahead of the upcoming presidential election.

The 63-year-old actor and “proud Democrat” has written an op-ed for The New York Times detailing why he believes President Biden needs to step aside, stating that his party will lose against opponent Donald Trump if he doesn’t.

With the United States presidential election less than four months away, there have been an increased number of calls for Biden to step down following his public appearances.

Concerns skyrocketed during Biden’s presidential debate last month against Donald Trump, during which, many criticized his performance.

Biden later put his lacklustre performance down to a hectic schedule which had him traveling “around the world a couple of times” in the days before the debate – admitting that he did “almost fell asleep on stage”.

Despite the backlash, Biden has remained steadfast that he is “firmly committed” to running as president… much to the dismay of some of his party’s most vocal supporters.

Now, Clooney has outright stated in his op-ed: “I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as president. I consider him a friend, and I believe in him. Believe in his character. Believe in his morals. In the last four years, he’s won many of the battles he’s faced.

“But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time.”

The actor claims that more and more Democrats now “collectively hold our breath” every time they see Biden “walk off Air Force One or walk back to a mic to answer an unscripted question”.

Clooney adds that his concerns are with age “and nothing more”, but stressed the importance of Biden needing to stand down.

“We are not going to win in November with this president,” Clooney said. “On top of that, we won’t win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate.

“This isn’t only my opinion; this is the opinion of every senator and congress member and governor that I’ve spoken with in private.”

The Ocean’s star highlighted that the Democratic party has an “exciting bench”, and he wants to hear more from potential candidates like Wes Moore, Kamala Harris, Gretchen Whitmer, Andy Beshear, and more.

Concluding his piece, Clooney emphasized that “Joe Biden is a hero; he saved democracy in 2020. We need him to do it again in 2024.”

Despite the calls, another vocal supporter of Joe Biden’s is his wife, Dr. Jill Biden.

At a recent rally, the First Lady told the crowd: “President Biden wakes up every morning ready to work for you. That’s what this election is all about: you.

For all the talk out there about this race, Joe has made it clear that he’s all in.”
